As part of our goal to develop and disseminate educational materials on safe pain management practices for clinicians and patients, we provide free online access to all PAMI products. Materials are available for download and reproduction for educational and reference purposes. NEW Patient Education and Activity Book

The Patient Education and Activity Book is available as part of the patient toolkit and is available as a download on our website.

The activity book was created as a helpful resource for patients to manage their pain at home and in collaboration with their healthcare team and caregivers. The intent is to help patients better understand why they feel pain, what contributes to making pain better or worse, ways to manage their pain, and empowering patients to take charge of their health and pain. This workbook and PAMI resources can be adapted for use in your institution by including the phrase, “Used with permission from the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville PAMI. Pain Coach and Toolkit Guide

The PAMI Pain Coach and Toolkit Guide provides a comprehensive set of resources for institutions to develop a pain coaching education program within their setting. It contains a rationale for developing a pain education model, resources to hire and train a pain coach, information on integrative pain management resources and suggested data collection and evaluation tools.

Discharge Planning Toolkit for Pain

The PAMI Discharge Planning Toolkit for Pain consists of an algorithm, a pain risk factor assessment form, 19 patient handouts and four videos. The patient handouts can be easily incorporated into ED, hospital and clinic discharge instructions via electronic medical record dot phrases.

Pain Management and Dosing Guide

The PAMI Pain Management and Dosing Guide is a comprehensive tool for pain management in hospital, EMS and emergency settings for adult and pediatric patients. It provides pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options, including oral, nasal, parenteral and topical medications for acute and chronic pain, anxiety and procedural sedation, as well as patient safety and discharge planning. Dosing ranges should be used as a general guide and adapted to patient characteristics and age. The guide is available to print as a trifold brochure (prints best as legal size 8.5″ x 14″) or it can be used electronically on mobile devices. There is also a video overview of the guide.

Pediatric Pain and Fever Dosing Guide

The PAMI Pediatric Pain and Fever Dosing Guide provides dosing information for both Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. Dosing is based on weight. It has been printed as a refrigerator magnet for distribution to parents of pediatric patients. The guide can be downloaded to use electronically or can be printed as a hard-copy.

Educational Pain Videos

The PAMI educational pain videos were developed to provide tips for patients to manage pain after discharge. There is also a video overview of the PAMI Pain Management and Dosing Guide and a video guide to use the PAMI virtual reality viewer.

Nonpharmacologic Toolkit

The PAMI Nonpharmacologic and Distraction Toolkit focuses on non-pharmacologic pain management. The free, downloadable toolkit includes topics such as a stepwise approach to pain management that incorporates pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic measures, therapeutic language, comfort positioning, coaching, distraction, guided imagery and other physical/psychosocial modalities.

Communication Cards

The Medical Communication Cards are a tool for hospital, ED and EMS providers and their patients. The cards are designed to assist in communication with children and families, especially non-English speakers or non-verbal patients. The cards are available in English/Spanish and also English/Haitian Creole.
